The Pipavav Combined Cycle Power Plant is a 702.86 MW gas-fired power station located at Kovaya, Rajula taluka in Amreli district near Pipavav, Gujarat. It is operated by GSPC Pipavav Power Company (GPPC), a special-purpose vehicle under the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation group. After several years of operation in a coastal, high-humidity environment, the plant required a structured repair and strengthening campaign across selected structures.
BuildAid was engaged as Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the repair and strengthening project – going beyond diagnostics into specification of repair methodology, contractor supervision, quality control and final acceptance.
A coastal gas-fired power plant carries the combined risks of marine chloride exposure and aggressive operating temperatures. Repair work had to be scheduled around the plant’s dispatch obligations and planned-maintenance windows. As PMC, BuildAid had to balance technical rigour – ensuring repairs were executed to the correct specification with the right materials – against the operational pressure to return structures to service quickly.
BuildAid’s PMC scope covered: pre-repair diagnostics (NDT, corrosion mapping, core testing), specification of repair methodology and materials (micro-concrete, corrosion inhibitors, structural coatings, jacketing where required), tender support to select repair contractors, on-site supervision of repair execution, quality assurance and verification testing post-repair, and final acceptance reporting. STAAD.Pro / ETABS modelling supported the strengthening designs where load-augmentation was needed.
