Sri Padmavathi Women’s Junior College (SPW) is one of the residential institutions run under the patronage of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) at Tirupati. The Vengamamba hostel block accommodates resident students of the college on a year-round basis. BuildAid was engaged to carry out a condition assessment of the hostel block to determine its current structural state and inform a maintenance and repair strategy.
Diagnostic work in a girls’ residential hostel demanded particular sensitivity around access, timing, and movement of male field staff through the premises. Inspections had to be coordinated with the hostel’s warden and the college administration so as not to disturb resident students. The building had been in service for many years, with the typical accumulation of finishes, false ceilings and surface treatments that often hide underlying distress.
BuildAid carried out a structured visual condition survey of the block, supported by NDT including UPV, Rebound Hammer, cover-meter and carbonation depth measurement. Selective core extraction was carried out for laboratory verification. Findings were correlated against the building’s age and original specifications to estimate residual life and prioritise interventions.
